Birthday Card

It has taken me awhile to write about my birthday. For those of you that don’t know, my 29th birthday was on March 17th. Jordan surprised me by taking the day off, making me breakfast, and planning a day at the Denver Zoo. The weather was fabulous and Brewer got a lot of practice walking. My favorite part of the day was at breakfast when Jordan handed me a homemade card from him and Brewer (the image above). The little characters are made with their thumb prints and Jordan enhanced them with his signature style. Simply adorable!!

Last year in my 20’s…wow, I think that’s a whole lot scarier than turning 30 (which is when most people freak out.) I want to welcome my 30th birthday with open arms and look at it as a new beginning/chapter. Therefore, I am really focused on making this last year in my 20’s count.

What does that entail exactly?…hmmm, not totally sure yet. Maybe I’ll let go of some old grudges, realize it’s impossible to be perfect, make new friends, appreciate life just a bit more, and focus on raising a confident little man. Sounds like a good start to me :)

My favorite part of the day was watching Brewer eat his teddy bear cake. He was unsure at first, but once he got a lick of that sweet icing, he was hooked.

Here is the first set of photos from Brewer’s first birthday celebration! We had mini bagel sandwiches/alcohol for adults and grilled cheese, french fries and juice for the kiddos. Brewer had a lot of fun with the sidewalk chalk we used to label the entrance and for kids to draw on the patio. We had fake tattoos of super heroes and princesses for kids and adults to wear during the party…I’ll use this idea on repeat every year!

Overall, I think everyone had a fun time watching Brewer open his presents and eat his cake (which will be the next set of photos).

Brewer’s first birthday is only one month away…sniffle. Once I get over the shock and wipe away the tears, I can start planning. I think I’ve been dreaming about throwing birthday parties for my own children for years. My parents always did a fabulous job of making each of there girls feel special on their big day and I plan to carry on that tradition.

Here are the plans thus far:

  1. I was inspired by a fellow blogger (Dear Baby blog) through her story about donating to a charity for her little girls birthday. What a great family tradition! So #1 is find a children charity to focus on.
  2. Make a super cute fabric banner that can be used every year, along with other decorations.
  3. Design and send Evite.
  4. Food menu: heavy appetizers and of course adult beverages
  5. Children activities: I’m lacking in this area so far. There will be a wide range of ages. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
  6. Party favors: I delegated this to my Mom, who makes awesome decorated sugar cookies. You might remember seeing her Christmas cookies here.

Well…looks like I have a lot to do.

Brewer had his first birthday party to go to this past weekend. It was a combined birthday for two little girls names Winter and June. We printed Lint Collections first set of tees as presents, accompanied by two my little ponies:)

We have a super busy weekend coming up. Brewer meets Santa Saturday afternoon and then off to his first birthday party. Sunday we are picking out our x-mas tree and decorating. We get a live one every year, I love they way they smell.
